Where Is Wadi Mujib?
Wadi Mujib is on the eastern shore of the Dead Sea in Jordan. Plan your drive and visit.
Location of Wadi Mujib
Wadi Mujib is in Jordan, on the eastern shore of the Dead Sea. The canyon (wadi) runs from the highlands down to the sea; the main visitor entrance and Adventure Center are near the Dead Sea side. For an overview of the reserve, see What Is Wadi Mujib in the menu. You pay the entrance fee at the gate and then go to the Adventure Center to start the Siq Trail, Ibex Trail, or canyoning. Check opening hours before you set off.
The reserve is well signposted from the Dead Sea Highway (Route 65). If you are staying at a Dead Sea hotel, Wadi Mujib is a short drive south. From Amman, you head down to the Dead Sea and then follow the highway. Exact driving times depend on traffic and where you start; allow roughly an hour to an hour and a half from Amman to the Wadi Mujib area.
Getting There from Amman
From Amman, take the road down to the Dead Sea (often via the Dead Sea Highway). The drive is scenic but has curves and elevation change. Once at the Dead Sea, head south along the coast; Wadi Mujib is on the eastern side. Allow about 1 to 1.5 hours from Amman, depending on your exact starting point and traffic. Arrive within opening hours so you have time to pay the entrance fee and register at the Adventure Center.
Public transport to Wadi Mujib is limited. Most visitors rent a car or join a tour. If you are on a day trip from Amman, leave early to make the most of the day.
Dead Sea and Nearby
Wadi Mujib is close to the Dead Sea resorts and beaches. Many visitors combine a morning at Wadi Mujib (e.g. the Siq Trail or Ibex Trail) with an afternoon at the Dead Sea. Check opening hours and book or pay the entrance fee as needed. The Adventure Center is your first stop inside the reserve. For more on the canyon itself, see What Is Wadi Mujib in the menu.
