Siq Trail
The classic water hike through Wadi Mujib's narrow gorge. Check entrance fees and opening hours before you go.
What Is the Siq Trail?
The Siq Trail is Wadi Mujib's most popular experience: a water hike through a narrow canyon (the "siq") carved by the Mujib River. You wade and climb upstream through the gorge, often chest-deep in places, until you reach a waterfall. The trail is thrilling, scenic, and physically demanding. It is different from the Ibex Trail (a dry hike) and from guided canyoning trips. Use the menu for background on the reserve and practical info.
Access is included with your entrance fee; you must register and get a life jacket at the Adventure Center. The Siq is only open when conditions are safe. Check opening hours and plan your trip before you go.
What to Expect on the Siq Trail
You start near the Adventure Center and enter the canyon from the Dead Sea side. The path follows the river upstream. You will walk and wade in the water; in some sections you climb over rocks or use ropes. Life jackets are usually provided and are required. The round trip typically takes two to four hours depending on pace and water level. The canyon walls tower above you, and the final waterfall is a popular turnaround point.
The Siq is not open year-round. It is typically open from April through October, when water levels and weather are manageable. Winter and heavy rain can close the trail. Always check current opening hours and conditions before traveling. Your entrance fee covers access; there is no separate Siq-only ticket.
What to Bring and Wear
You will get wet. Wear secure water shoes or sport sandals with good grip; flip-flops are not suitable. Bring a change of clothes and a waterproof bag for phones and keys. Sunscreen and water are recommended. Leave valuables in your car or at the Adventure Center if possible. The reserve provides life jackets; other gear may be available for rent—inquire at the center.
The Siq Trail requires a reasonable level of fitness. You need to wade, climb, and sometimes pull yourself up. If you prefer a dry hike with canyon views, consider the Ibex Trail. For guided canyon adventures, see Canyoning in the menu.
Planning Your Visit
Arrive within the reserve's opening hours and allow enough time for the full Siq hike plus registration. Pay the entrance fee at the gate, then go to the Adventure Center to sign in and get your life jacket. Plan your drive using the Where Is Wadi Mujib page in the menu so you start on time.
