Ibex Trail
Dry hiking with panoramic canyon views. No swimming required.
What Is the Ibex Trail?
The Ibex Trail is a dry hiking route at Wadi Mujib Biosphere Reserve. Unlike the Siq Trail, which takes you through the river in the canyon, the Ibex Trail keeps you on foot along paths with sweeping views of the gorge and surrounding landscape. It is ideal if you prefer not to get wet or want a less strenuous option than wading upstream. Use the menu for context on the reserve and directions.
Access is covered by your entrance fee. You can start from the same general area as the Siq; the Adventure Center has information and sometimes different opening hours for each trail.
What to Expect on the Ibex Trail
The Ibex Trail follows paths above or alongside the canyon. You get panoramic views of the sandstone cliffs and the Mujib valley without entering the water. The terrain can include rocky sections and some uphill walking, so sturdy shoes and sun protection are important. Duration depends on how far you go; allow a few hours for a comfortable round trip. The trail is a good alternative when the Siq Trail is closed (e.g. in winter) or when you want a drier experience. For more intense canyon action, see Canyoning in the menu.
Check opening hours before you go; the Ibex Trail may have different seasonal availability than the Siq. Your entrance fee typically includes both trails; confirm at the Adventure Center when you arrive.
Who Is the Ibex Trail For?
The Ibex Trail suits visitors who want to hike without swimming, enjoy canyon scenery, or need a less demanding option than the Siq. It is still a real hike: wear closed-toe shoes with good grip, bring water and sunscreen, and be prepared for sun and uneven ground. Families with older children or anyone avoiding deep water may prefer it over the Siq Trail. If you are unsure, ask at the Adventure Center which trail fits your group and the day's conditions.
You can combine a visit with other activities: do the Ibex Trail in the morning and relax by the Dead Sea. Use the Where Is Wadi Mujib page in the menu to plan your drive and day.
Planning Your Visit
Arrive during the reserve's opening hours. Pay the entrance fee at the gate and stop at the Adventure Center for trail maps and current conditions. Plan your drive so you have enough time on the trail.
